God's guidance through discernment
I was recently approached by a college student in our congregation with a question about discernment..
I was honored to be asked and didn’t take the question lightly. Her friends wanted her to do one thing with them but she was anxious and uneasy about it. But they were weighing on her saying if she didnt go she wasn’t really trusting God. She had been praying about it, but didnt get a clear answer.
She asked me, if she chose not to go with her friends would she not be trusting God?
God calls us to all sorts of different things but I feel if a situation is making you anxious, you should take a second look. Pray about it, listen to your feelings.
To me, trusting God is a feeling, not an action. God knows whether you trust in God or not. God knows our hearts.
Our God is a God of peace and love. 1 Corinthians 14:33, “For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.”
God calls us to ministry. We doubt ourselves, its human nature. I believe trust means asking God for guidance. Sometimes we get a clear answer, sometimes we pray and pray and still don’t know what to do. We reach out to “older” people for help, and ultimately we make a decision.
If you ask for God’s guidance, he will be with you each step of the way.
God makes good out of every situation.
I think many of us struggle with discernment, I know I do. Often, we put too much pressure on ourselves and it’s hard to hear God’s voice. We need to learn to take a step back. Share your feelings with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Let God take the reins.
Go in peace, friends.
